Dr. Hawari
Upon graduation
May 1989
Mineola Eyecare began over 60 years ago, in April 1946, when Dr. J. Carl Norris opened for business. Dr. Norris graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. The first office was located at 106 W. Board Street. In 1963 it was moved to 211 N. Newsome Street.
In 1973 Dr. T.D. McClenny joined the practice after graduating from the College of Optometry at the University of Houston. As more space and parking was needed to accommodate the two doctors, the office was eventually moved to its current location, 1238 N. Pacific. The new office building was constructed in 1984.
As Dr. Norris was approaching retirement, a search began for a new optometrist to join the practice. In June 1989, upon graduation from the University of Missouri College of Optometry, Dr. Andy M. Hawari joined the team. Two years later, in July 1991, Dr. Norris completed his carrer and retired from the practice.
Over the next twelve years Drs. McClenny and Hawari worked together to expand the services provided by Mineola Eyecare. As the state laws changed in Texas, Dr. McClenny and Hawari kept pace with cutting edge technology and the optometric training to provide the best vision and eye health care possible.
Then in January 2003, Dr. McClenny followed the call of God on his life becoming a full time foreign missionary. Dr. McClenny sold his interest in Mineola Eyecare and went to work for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Since that time Dr. Hawari has continued as sole owner and operator of Mineola Eyecare.
Recently, at the end of 2008 Mineola Eyecare added 900 square feet for optical retail and underwent numerous other renovations.
